Installing SQL Server Management Studio 2008


Pre-requisites :
1. Uninstall all previous SQL Server express editions.
2. Download and install Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1.
3. Download and install Windows Installer 4.5 (important of you have pre-Vista OS).
4. Download and install Windows PowerShell 1.0.

1. Go to microsoft downloads
Download "SQL Server 2008 Express with Tools" which contains the following features:
* SQL Server database engine - create, store, update and retrieve your data
* SQL Server Management Studio Basic - visual database management tool for creating, editing and managing databases

2. Download the files most appropriate for you
SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe
SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe

3. Execute the installation package (Start the wizard).

4. Once the "SQL Server Installation Center" wizard shows up, you will see links on the right :
Planning
Installation
Maintenance ...

5. Select Maintenance > Edition Upgrade ;and install features which upgrades your SQL Server to Enterprise edition.

6. Close and Restart
the wizard.

7. Now select Installation > New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add feature to an existing installation; and follow the instructions. (Check Management Studio / Tools in the Features lists )

You are done with installing SQL Server Management Studio 2008
